Lopez New Waves Coach
Andy Lopez, Cal State Dominguez baseball coach for the last six years, was hired Wednesday to replace Dave Gorrie as head baseball coach at Pepperdine, announced Wayne Wright, Pepperdine athletic director.
Under Lopez, 34, the Toros were champions of the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. in 1986 and 1987 and won the National Collegiate Assn. Western Regional playoffs title in 1987.
From 1978 to 1982, Lopez, who played baseball at UCLA in the mid-1970s, was head coach at Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach and an assistant coach at Los Angeles Harbor College in 1972-73.
