Homeowners’ Fees
A few months ago, I wrote the governor regarding a law that went into effect on Jan. 1 called AB 279. I cannot understand his signing such a bill. This is a law that gives homeowners’ associations the right to raise dues 20% a year without the vote of the homeowners.
Many people in these communities are the elderly, living on fixed incomes, some on Social Security benefits and many are holding down jobs to supplement their incomes to make ends meet.
This law would, over a period of five to 10 years, cause people to start paying rent on homes they already own! It is a horrendous law and should be abolished.
