A British “Moonlighting” coming to America? According to TV industry officials, a rising tide of European-made television shows are moving across the Atlantic. London Weekend Television has sold the series “A Fine Romance” to ABC, where it is scheduled to appear Sunday evenings next season. But instead of Cybill Shepherd and Bruce Willis, the series stars American actress Margaret Whitten as the American ex-wife of a stuffy Cambridge don, played by Anthony Andrews. And ABC isn’t alone. CBS plans to air a Thames Television miniseries this fall about Jack the Ripper, and Home Box Office is developing two miniseries in Britain: “The Nightmare Years,” about pre-World War II Germany and “The Great Satan,” about the Iranian Revolution.
