Bruce Springsteen spoke out--or, at least, his publicist at Columbia Records did--Tuesday on the subject of his troubled marriage to actress Julianne Phillips and the causes of their current problems. The stories told thus far about the alliance--that she wanted to work, and that he wanted kids--”are totally untrue,” Springsteen said via Marilyn Laverty at Columbia, as quoted by USA Today. “The breakup has nothing to do with that. . . . There are no mysterious or hidden reasons,” Laverty said, adding that Springsteen “is not displeased about Julianne pursuing acting.” No word on the Boss’ alleged liaison with his backup singer, Patti Scialfa, or if Springsteen or Phillips had filed or would file for divorce.
