Local News in Brief : Santa Ana : Fire at Apartment Site May Have Been Accident
Fire investigators now suspect that construction equipment sparked a blaze that destroyed an apartment complex under construction in downtown Santa Ana.
The June 7 fire, which destroyed the Bristol House complex in the 400 block of East 4th Street, remains classified as suspicious, Deputy Fire Chief Jim Montgomery said. But he said reports that the fire was deliberately set could not be verified.
“There were numerous sources of heat used by construction workers . . . in the approximate area of origin,” Montgomery said. “Any of these sources of heat are capable of having been an accidental source of ignition.”
The investigation officially remains open, but Montgomery said it is unlikely that an exact cause will be determined unless new evidence is found.
