Laguna Chamber Music Society to Open Its 29th Season Oct. 3
The Paillard Chamber Orchestra and the ensemble Musicians from Marlboro will be two of the groups featured on the 29th season of the Laguna Beach Chamber Music Society.
The Paillard ensemble, one of the first ensembles to specialize in the Baroque repertory, was formed in 1953 by French conductor-musicologist Jean-Francois Paillard. The orchestra will open the Laguna Beach season with a Bach program, Oct. 3.
Musicians from Marlboro, a ensemble formed each year at the Marlboro Festival in Vermont, will close the season May 2, with music by Mozart, Beethoven and Weber.
Dates and repertory for the 8 p.m. programs in the series at Laguna Beach High School are:
--Oct. 3: Paillard Chamber Orchestra: Bach’s Suite No. 2, Concerto for Three Violins in D, Flute Concerto in D minor and Violin Concerto in A minor; C.P.E. Bach’s Flute Concerto in D minor.
--Nov. 7: Panocha String Quartet: program to be announced.
--Jan. 8: Cellist Mischa Maisky; pianist David Gross: Bach’s Suite No. 3 for Cello; Debussy’s Sonata No. 1 in D minor for Cello; Schubert’s “Arpeggione” Sonata.
--Jan. 29: Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio, with David Jolley, horn: Beethoven’s Trio in B-flat, Opus 11; Brahms’ Trio for horn, violin and piano; Mendelssohn’s Trio No. 2 in C minor.
--March 22: Mendelssohn String Quartet: Haydn’s Quartet in C, Opus 20; Dvorak’s Quartet in A-flat, Opus 105; Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 9.
--May 2: Musicians from Marlboro: Beethoven’s String Trio and Mozart String Quintet to be announced; Weber’s Quintet in B-flat for clarinet and strings.
