Florida Investigates Reported Drug Use
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Reports of continued drug use by University of Florida athletes have sparked an investigation by the school, Marshall M. Criser, the university’s president, said Wednesday.
Without identifying students by name or team, Criser announced the university will probe reports of illegal drug activity from an unnamed law enforcement agency.
Criser said the reports of drug abuse surfaced in a criminal investigation in Gainesville. The university’s own investigation will check allegations about possible drug use by a limited number of current or former Gator athletes, Criser said.
“If the investigation leads to proof of violations of National Collegiate Athletic Assn. or Southeastern Conference rules, the results will be promptly reported to them and (we) will take appropriate action,” Criser said.
