American Legion Area 6 Playoffs Begin
District 16 champion Camarillo and District 20 representatives Van Nuys-Notre Dame and Studio City begin the Area 6 American Legion baseball playoffs today at Ralph Welch Field in Pomona.
The six-team, double-elimination tournament concludes Sunday with the winner advancing to the six-team state championships next week in Yountville, Calif.
Van Nuys-Notre Dame (21-11) meets Santa Monica, the defending tournament champion, at 4 p.m. Studio City (20-10) faces District 18 runner-up Arcadia at 12:30 p.m. and Camarillo (24-5), the area runner-up last year, plays District 18 champion Claremont at 7:30 p.m.
Mike Peterson (6-2) will be the starting pitcher for Van Nuys-Notre Dame, which swept Studio City in a doubleheader Sunday to win the District 20 title.
Derron Spiller, who is 6-0 with a 2.49 earned-run average, is the projected starter for Camarillo (24-5).
Chris Romo (7-0) will start for Studio City.
