Electrical power went out for about 90 minutes Tuesday in a section of downtown Washington, disrupting business in the National Press Building and briefly affecting the White House grounds, utility officials said.

The power failed when a cable was accidentally cut at a construction site on 15th Street Northwest near Pennsylvania Avenue, utility officials said. The White House power feeder on the South Lawn went down but a backup generator quickly took over, officials said.
