Page Quits as Publisher of Chicago Sun-Times
Robert E. Page has resigned as publisher and president of the Chicago Sun-Times, two years after leading a management buyout of the daily newspaper. In a statement to Sun-Times staff members, Page said he was leaving his post “with regret.”
The Chicago Sun-Times promptly announced that it bought back the minority interests of Page, who was the leader of a management group that purchased the daily tabloid from Rupert Murdoch in the summer of 1986 in a $145-million leveraged buyout.
A successor has not been named, but Art Wible, publisher of the Dallas Times Herald until that paper was sold two months ago, reportedly is a top candidate.
Murdoch sold the paper to comply with federal regulations after his purchase of several television stations.
