The United States beat Australia, 12-6, to win an eight-nation water polo tournament in Duisburg, West Germany, a major warmup event before the Seoul Olympics.
The U.S. was unbeaten in the tournament, which included the strongest water polo nations except for the Soviet Union and Italy.
The U.S. won five games, and tied host West Germany and Yugoslavia, the 1984 Olympic champion. The United States won the silver medal at the Los Angeles Games.
Yugoslavia finished second in the tournament by beating West Germany, 16-8.
