Exemplary Columnist
Allan H. Meltzer’s Times Board of Economists column on Aug. 7, “American Dream Is Still Kicking,” was less about the economy than about politics.
He even used the Reaganesque phrase, “prophets of gloom and despair,” and told us to avoid their remedies. In other words, vote Republican.
I read the business section to learn about finance and the economy, not about politics. Your columnist, James Flanagan, is a shining example. I couldn’t even guess his politics. And I have learned so much from his wonderfully original columns.
