Mike Tyson will fight Frank Bruno in a heavyweight title defense in London Oct. 22 instead of Oct. 8, Tyson’s manager, Bill Cayton, said.
The switch was made after Dr. David Chiu examined a hairline break in Tyson’s right hand, which Tyson sustained last week during a 4:30 a.m. street fight in Harlem with former opponent Mitchell Green. The cast was removed Thursday, the hand was X-rayed, and according to Cayton, Chiu said, “the fracture is healing beautifully.”
Kevin Rooney, Tyson’s trainer, said: “The doctor said the hand will be completely healed five weeks from the injury. That means he’ll be able to start hitting people and things by Sept. 25.”
Wednesday, Tyson is scheduled to go to the Soviet Union, where his wife, actress Robin Givens, will tape segments of her TV series, “Head of the Class.” Rooney said Tyson will start his training while he is there for a one-week stay.
Tyson is expected to go to London Sept. 25.
