Manhattan Beach Bookmaking Raid
After a five-month investigation, sheriff’s deputies raided a $1-million-a-day bookmaking operation in Manhattan Beach on Saturday. They arrested four people and seized computers, television monitors and two wire service teletype machines.
“This was a pretty big operation,” said Deputy Detta Roberts.
Arrested for investigation of conspiracy for bookmaking were Clarence Gary Austin, 47, of Manhattan Beach; Fred John Cowan, 55, of Manhattan Beach, and Mark Allen Mitzenmacher, 28, of Ontario, said Roberts. Charles Rizzuto, 43, of Manhattan Beach, was booked on suspicion of bookmaking.
They were freed on $5,000 bail, police said.
