Fall Sports Roundup : Sacramento State Stops CSUN in Volleyball Tournament Final
Alissa Evans had 19 kills and Kathleen Dixon added 16 for Cal State Northridge, but Sacramento State defeated the Lady Matadors, 15-9, 15-12, 11-15, 15-2, in the championship match of the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball tournament Saturday.
Northridge (6-3) had advanced to the final of the 10-team tournament with a 15-10, 17-15, 21-19 victory over Bakersfield.
BOYS’ WATER POLO
Long Beach Wilson 7, Harvard 4--Jed Simon, one of three Saracens named to the all-tournament team, scored two goals in the championship match of the Millikan tournament at Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach.
Harvard goalie Larry Bercutt, who had 36 saves in five games, and teammate Justin Cheen also were named to the all-tournament team.
GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Newbury Park d. Royal, 16-14, 15-13--The Panthers went undefeated in seven matches to win the Calabasas tournament.
Marlo Cormier, a middle blocker, was named the tournament’s most valuable player. Newbury Park’s Camille Mitchell and Shannon Mutch also were selected along with Amy Sodek and Beth Kohs of Royal, Chatsworth’s Jennifer Mischler and Lisa Suwara of Calabasas.
Calabasas defeated Chatsworth, 15-6, for third place.
