Guard Duane Washington of the New Jersey Nets was arrested on cocaine-related charges by Newark, N.J., police.
The Newark Star-Ledger reported that Washington, 24, of Little Rock, Ark., was arrested Sunday and charged with possession of cocaine and possession of a controlled dangerous substance inside a vehicle.
He was released on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond, police said.
Net spokesman Brian Ricco said: “We’re investigating. We’ve notified the league, and under their drug policies this becomes a league matter. We can’t really comment further.”
According to the National Basketball Assn.’s drug policy, Washington will be expelled from the league for life if convicted of the charges but could apply for reinstatement after 2 years, NBA spokesman Alex Sachare said.
