Mariner Owner Denies He’s Trying to Sell Team
George Argyros, owner of the Seattle Mariners, Wednesday denied newspaper reports that he is trying to sell the team to a group of Miami investors.
The Miami News reported that a group of investors headed by Abel Holtz, chairman of the Capital Bank, was negotiating to buy the Mariners.
Argyros, however, said in a prepared statement that he has no plans to sell the team.
“The meeting was scheduled as a courtesy to another owner,” Argyros said. “That’s all it was: a courtesy meeting. In the meeting, I told this individual the same thing I have said publicly, which is that the Seattle Mariners are not for sale. Period.”
