Braves Acquire Jody Davis in 3-Player Deal

The Atlanta Braves acquired catcher Jody Davis from the Chicago Cubs Thursday for rookie pitchers Kevin Coffman and Kevin Blankenship.

Davis, who would have been eligible for free agency at the end of the season, agreed to a 2-year contract with Atlanta. Terms were not disclosed.

Davis is expected to join the Braves tonight for their game at Cincinnati.

Davis, 31, hit .229 in 88 games for the Cubs this season with 6 home runs and 33 runs batted in. In 8 major league seasons, Davis has hit .251 with 122 home runs and 467 RBIs. He made the National League All-Star team in 1984 and 1986.

Coffman, 23, was 2-6 with a 5.78 earned-run average in 18 games for Atlanta this season. Blankenship, 25, was 13-9 with a 2.35 ERA in double-A play before being brought up to the Braves on Sept. 16. He is 1-0 with the Braves with a 3.38 ERA in 2 starts.
