A Leucadia man was stabbed in the neck early Monday, apparently during a struggle over a six-pack of beer, a sheriff’s spokesman said.
Jaime Florez, 36, was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital-Encinitas at 2:11 a.m., where he underwent surgery and was listed in stable condition Monday, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Florez was attacked while walking on the railroad tracks near the 100 block of Lomas Santa Fe Drive and Highway 101 in Solana Beach, Detective Tom Field of the Encinitas sheriff’s substation said.
Field said Florez was carrying a six-pack of beer when a man approached him and tried to grab the beer away. A fight broke out, and, when sheriff’s deputies arrived, they found Florez on top of the man with a knife wound in his neck.
Hilario Mendez Vazquez, 28, of Solana Beach was taken to County Jail and booked on suspicion of attempted robbery with great bodily injury and assault with a deadly weapon, a jail clerk said.
