11 Soviet Railway Cars Derailed in New Mishap
From Reuters
MOSCOW — Eleven railroad tanker cars carrying diesel fuel derailed and two caught fire in Soviet Turkmenia last week, Tass news agency reported Monday.
No one was reported injured in the latest of a series of Soviet railway accidents.
Soviet officials have urged new safety measures on the country’s railways after a number of rail disasters. Earlier this month, four people were killed and 1,021 injured when a train loaded with explosives crashed and then blew up in the industrial city of Sverdlovsk.
