Local News in Brief : Suspect in Rape Arrested in Court
Los Angeles police arrested a Claremont rape suspect as he appeared in Pomona Superior Court during a routine court appearance this week and charged him with two dozen other felony counts involving rape and kidnapings that he allegedly committed in South-Central Los Angeles while free on bail.
The suspect, Timothy Young, 24, was arraigned Friday afternoon on the new charges, involving six South-Central high school girls ages 14 to 17 years.
In October, 1987, Young was charged with 10 counts of assorted sex crimes as well as attempted robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and robbery involving four victims in Pomona and Claremont. But he was released a month later after posting $25,000 bail.
In the case filed on Friday, Young is charged with 24 counts of assorted sex crimes, as well as kidnaping and robbery, between April and Oct. 11 of this year. Since his arrest Wednesday, Young has been held without bail in Los Angeles County Jail.
