Arab Summit Draws Rare Israeli Praise
JERUSALEM — Israel’s Foreign Ministry had unusual praise Monday for a weekend summit meeting between Jordan, Egypt and the Palestine Liberation Organization.
A Foreign Ministry spokesman told reporters that Saturday’s summit in Aqaba, Jordan, between King Hussein, PLO leader Yasser Arafat and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak appeared to represent “an honest, real attempt on Egypt’s initiative to promote the option of a Jordanian-Palestinian delegation to future peace negotiations.”
Israeli spokesmen rarely praise anything having to do with the PLO, which the government regards as a terrorist organization.
