Health authorities have launched an investigation to determine the source of syringes, vials and other medical waste that washed up onto a San Diego beach over the weekend.
Scavengers reported finding vials of blood, syringes still fitted with needles, a hospital name tag and other medical items tangled in the kelp off Black’s Beach.
The items were turned over to investigators with the San Diego County Department of Health.
This summer, East Coast residents became alarmed when increasing amounts of medical waste began washing up onto beaches. It is illegal to dispose of medical waste in the ocean.
