The new director of Massachusetts’ state police training program that has been blamed for the death of a cadet vowed to have a proposal for totally revamped training ready by month’s end. “I have attended a number of police funerals, and never have I felt the depth of feeling as in that church and outside,” Peter W. Agnes Jr. said of the services for cadet Timothy Shepard, 25. Agnes, assistant secretary of public safety, took over the Criminal Justice Training Council after the resignation last week of director Gary Egan. Shepard of Pittsfield died 44 days after collapsing with heat stroke on the first day of training at the Agawam police academy.
