THE COLLEGES : Community College Basketball Roundup : Golden West Rolls With 104-93 Win

Markus Muller-Stach scored 25 points and Alex Kreps 20 to lead Golden West College to a 104-93 victory over the Pomona Pitzer junior varsity in a nonconference men’s basketball game Friday at Golden West.

Muller-Stach, a sophomore forward, was 11 of 19 from the field for Golden West, which shot 60% (46 of 77). Mike Budenholzer led the Pomona Pitzer JV with 36 points, including 5 of 9 from 3-point range.

In another nonconference men’s game:

Rio Hondo 75, Cypress 68--Andre Lamoureux and Mike Varos scored 11 points for Cypress (1-3). Vince Hizon and Nate Shea-han each scored 10 points for Cypress.

In the College of the Desert tournament:

Long Beach 97, Rancho Santiago 82--Shawn Williams scored 29 points and Andre LaBeauf 26 to lead Long Beach to the first-round victory. Stephen Smith added 14 and Lantz Simpson 10 for Long Beach.

Rancho Santiago was led by Gene Altamirano’s 19 points. Mike Oden added 12 points and had 11 rebounds and 11 blocked shots. Craig Rice also scored 11 point for Rancho Santiago (3-2), which shot 36% (28 of 83) from the field.

Rancho Santiago was just 2 of 10 from 3-point range. Long Beach shot 48% (41 of 88) and was 1 of 2 on 3-point shots.

In the Saddleback tournament:

Moorpark 66, Saddleback 62--Sean Keyes scored 19 points but Saddleback lost in the opening round at home.

Wun Versher had 15 points and Vincent Mason 10 for Saddleback (1-3). Sixteen points by Steve Murphy and 15 by Roger Thomas led Moorpark, which plays Pasadena tonight in the final at 7:30 p.m. Saddleback plays Grossmont in the third-place game at 5:30 p.m.

In women’s nonconference basketball:

Fullerton 74, Citrus 60--Debbie Wagner scored 19 points for Fullerton, which has opened the season with 6 victories in a row. Viv Perez added 14, Kelly Johnson 11 and Lisa Crosskey 10 for Fullerton, which led, 37-23, at the half.

Citrus is 2-1.

Golden West 122, Compton 53--Golden West (4-1) scored more than 100 points for the third time this season in the victory at home. Lori Totos had 23 and Micky Hamilton for Golden West, which led, 52-28, at the half.
