A 4-year television package, designed to bolster track and field in the United States, was announced by Ollan Cassell, executive director of The Athletics Congress, the sport’s national governing body.

The deal, without sponsorship, will begin next year with 17 meets, including 9 in the United States: 3 indoors and 6 outdoors.

The package, announced at the TAC national convention at Phoenix, includes The Times Indoor Games, Feb. 17; the World Indoor Championships March 3-5 at Budapest; the World Cross-Country Championships March 19 at Stavanger, Norway; the World Marathon Cup April 15-16 at Milan, Italy; the Outdoor Grand Prix Final Sept. 1 at Monaco, and the World Cup Sept. 8-10 at Barcelona, Spain.

The U.S. meets will be telecast by Turner Broadcasting System in part, either live or on tape, and international competitions will be shown by TBS or by a network, Cassell said.
