Gandhi Slayers Win Stay Pending Appeals

NEW DELHI — Two Sikhs convicted in the October, 1984, assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi won a temporary reprieve from the gallows today when the Supreme Court agreed to delay their executions to hear appeals by their lawyers.
Less than 14 hours before Satwant Singh and Kehar Singh were to be hanged, a three-judge panel of India’s highest court ordered the executions postponed until Tuesday.
