GOP Tax Increase
Now we have former Presidents Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford joining the chorus of those trying to persuade President-elect George Bush to read something other than lips concerning the budget. As one of the many who feel that new taxes (“revenue enhancement”) will become a reality early in the Bush Administration, I find it strange that the Democrats, who suffer through each election characterized as the “tax and spend” party, are failing to take advantage of this situation.
Congress should allow the Bush Administration to come up with the tax hike which is inevitable. Congress assuming the initiative will only lead to further charges by Bush and others that he didn’t have a choice in the matter. The Democratic majority in Congress should insure that any blame for new taxes is shouldered by the party responsible for the deficit.
