Fire Razes Town House Project
A wind-whipped fire destroyed $10 million in town houses under construction near the Mountaingate Country Club in the Sepulveda Pass early today.
Thirty-nine companies of firefighters kept the blaze from other expensive homes and from spreading west into the exclusive Mandeville Canyon area. The fire began at about 7:45 a.m. and burned to the ground a block of two-story town houses in the framing stage of construction in the 2300 block of north Canyonback Road. The cause of the fire was under investigation but was listed as suspicious, Fire Department spokesman Jim Williamson said.
