Services Slated for Rev. Dunlap in Costa Mesa
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the First United Methodist Church in Costa Mesa for the Rev. Richard J. Dunlap, former pastor of that church and several others in Orange and Los Angeles counties before his retirement in 1979.
Dunlap, who was 75, died Sunday at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach after suffering a stroke.
During his 38-year career in the ministry, Dunlap served at churches in Mission Viejo, Huntington Park, Alhambra, San Gabriel and Tucson, Ariz. He had served as chairman of the board of trustees and the budget committee of the United Methodist California-Pacific Conference. He also served on the boards of directors of several YMCAs.
A native of Portland, Ore., he received his bachelor’s degree from UCLA in 1941 before attending the Boston University School of Theology, where he graduated in 1944.
Survivors include his wife, Moya Cairns Dunlap, four children, eight grandchildren and a great-grandson.
The family said that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Richard J. Dunlap Memorial Fund, 2016 Paloma Drive, Costa Mesa. The family said the fund will benefit the Claremont School of Theology and the Hollywood YMCA.
