‘Make Schools Businesslike’

In all deference to Dean Solmon, I must reply to his column now that I have recovered from almost choking on my breakfast while reading his piece.

During my graduate work for an education associated field, I had instructors from a number of educational organizations. Without a doubt, save one, my instructors were experienced, prepared and superior. The one exception was one of the overpaid associate superintendents from the L.A. school district.

Please, Dean Solmon, save your elephant tears. Instead, work for your idea of rewarding efficient teachers instead of promoting them to ineffective administrators. Let’s leave the business of running the schools to business managers, not administrators (and there is a big difference), trained and experienced persons, much as many other professions have found to be cost efficient.
