College Basketball : CSUN Women Come Up Short at Abilene Christian, 85-69
A Cal State Northridge rally fizzled down the stretch as the Lady Matadors fell to Abilene Christian, 85-69, in a women’s nonconference basketball game in Abilene, Tex., on Tuesday.
Center Chris Cavalin led Northridge (9-3) with 19 points and 16 rebounds. Forward Julie Arlotto added 16 points for the Lady Matadors.
In other women’s games:
Cal State Los Angeles 88, Cal Lutheran 49--Cal Lutheran made only 19 of 72 field-goal attempts in the nonconference loss at CSLA.
Junior forward Heidi Griffith led Cal Lutheran with 14 points.
Gordon College (Mass) 74, The Master’s 71--Carolyn Waltman missed a 3-point jump shot from the top of the key with 10 seconds left that would have tied the nonconference game at The Master’s.
Kim Vargas led Masters with 20 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the field.
MEN
Canyons 88, West L.A. 78--Larry Allbritton had 20 points, including 3 3-point baskets, to lead Canyons to the Western State Conference win at West L .A.
