THE PREPS : Canyon Names Shumer Head Football Coach
Loren Shumer has been named head football coach at Canyon High School, Athletic Director Steve Anderson said Wednesday.
Shumer, 41, has been involved with the Canyon football program for the past 12 years and has been an assistant varsity coach for the past 3 years. Shumer was one of three applicants for the job, which was open only to teachers within the Orange Unified School District.
“Loren has been involved with the program and knows the kids,” Anderson said. “He’s coached at different levels at Canyon and worked with the varsity.”
Shumer replaces Bob Rau, who was informed in December that his contract would not be renewed. Rau, who was a first-year coach at Canyon, had a temporary contract and was part of an overall cutback by the Orange Unified School District.
