The South Coast Symphony has received $500 from the Irvine Co., orchestra officials announced Friday. The financially strapped orchestra also reported that an unspecified grant from Fred S. James Co. of Irvine, announced last week, is for $12,000. The company has stipulated that half of it be used for a July 4 pops concert at Irvine Heritage Park. The orchestra has been plagued by a shortfall at the box office of about $30,000 and is trying to raise another $110,000 to present the two remaining concerts on its subscription series. The concerts will be March 4 at Santa Ana High School and April 29 at Orange Coast College.
