College Basketball : Moorpark Runs Conference Streak to 20 Wins Despite Loss of Marshall
The Moorpark College women’s basketball team, playing without Kerrie Marshall, its leading scorer and rebounder, extended its Western State Conference winning streak to 20 games over the last 3 seasons with a 75-54 victory over College of the Canyons on Tuesday at Canyons.
Marshall left the team after a dispute with Coach Gary Abraham after she was late for practice Tuesday, according to Abraham. She was averaging 18 points and 8 rebounds a game to lead the Lady Raiders in both categories.
“I hope we can pick up the slack with Kerrie gone,” Abraham said. “It’s no doubt a big loss for us.”
Susie Smiley scored 17 points to lead Moorpark (17-4, 5-0 in conference play).
Mary Bittner added 13 and Kristie Sterbens had 10.
Tressie Millender scored a game-high 32 points to lead Canyons (3-12, 2-3).
