THE PREPS : Angelus League Roundup : Caya Leads Servite’s Third-Quarter Rally
Forward Blaine Caya scored 6 of his team-high 12 points in the third quarter Friday to spark a third-quarter rally and lead Servite High School to a 50-45 victory over Bishop Montgomery in an Angelus League boys’ basketball game at Servite.
Bishop Montgomery had slowed the pace to lead, 17-16, at the half. But Servite (12-7, 3-2) outscored Bishop Montgomery, 18-8, in the third quarter. Caya also had a team-high 11 rebounds for Servite. Rob Jones added 10 for Servite.
Darrell Daniel scored 16 points for Bishop Montgomery (9-10, 0-5). Daniel was 3 of 3 on 3-pointers in the final quarter but Bishop Montgomery could not get closer than 5 points.
Mater Dei 68, Bishop Amat 36--David Boyle scored 15 points to lead visiting Mater Dei. Mike Morris scored 14 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field and also had a team-high 8 rebounds for Mater Dei (21-2, 5-0). Mater Dei led, 27-17, at the half and, 40-23, after 3 quarters.
Dylan Rigdon, who leads Mater Dei with 19.1 points a game, was bothered by the flu. He played only sparingly and scored 4 points. Jason Green scored 14 points for Bishop Amat (13-8, 3-3).
