Suspect in Killings Pleads Innocent
A man accused of trying to kill a prostitute earlier this month, who is being investigated in connection with other similar attacks on women, pleaded not guilty Monday to six charges.
Glesty Donald Waters, 35, who was arrested last week in Coos Bay, Ore., was arraigned before San Diego Municipal Judge Raymond Edwards.
Waters is also charged with kidnaping, robbery, false imprisonment, sexual battery and assault with a deadly weapon in the Jan. 6 attack on Helen Toy, 33.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Charles Rogers said Waters is not a suspect in the Green River killings in Seattle and is not believed to have committed nearly 30 homicides in San Diego of women whose bodies were dumped in North and East County.
However, Rogers said there are a few cases Waters is suspected of participating in, and the investigation continues.
Bail was set at $300,000.
Waters apparently was visiting his mother, Shirley Waters, who lives in San Diego, earlier this month when the attack occurred.
His lawyer, Bill Boyland, said Waters is married and has two children in Oregon. He moved to Oregon in 1987 after living in San Diego County 32 years, Boyland said.
