The State : Police Kill Man Armed With Toy
Two Garden Grove police officers killed 20-year-old Dennis Gonzales with 14 shots when he allegedly pointed a toy gun at one of them as they questioned his girlfriend. The officers, who were not identified, said they went to the home of Paige Richelieu early Sunday after she called to complain that Gonzales had beaten her. As the officers talked to her, Gonzales reportedly returned from a nearby store and went into a combat crouch, raising the plastic pistol. Police Chief John Robertson said one officer fired eight shots and the other fired six. The chief defended their actions, saying they believed that their lives were in danger. Gonzales’ family members denied he pointed the toy weapon at the officers.
