Construction Starts on Postal Center in Industry
Major Processing Complex to Be Finished in Early 1990, Will Serve San Gabriel, Pomona, Walnut Valleys
Construction has begun on a $61.5-million postal facility in City of Industry to serve a 375-square-mile area encompassing Alhambra and sections of the San Gabriel, Walnut and Pomona valleys.
The facility, at 15421 E. Gale Ave., will be the Alhambra Management Sectional Center of the U.S. Postal Service, encompassing 502,000 square feet of space as a full-service post office and mail processing center. Completion is expected in the spring of 1990.
Observation galleries of 4,000 linear feet in the main mail processing area will enable postal inspectors to observe the work below. The loading dock will contain 41 locations.
Pasadena-based Jacobs Engineering Group is providing the architecture and engineering services. George Hyman Construction Co. of Bethesda, Md., is the contractor.
