IN BRIEF : Expos’ Perez in Drug Program
MONTREAL — Pitcher Pascual Perez of the Montreal Expos, who has had previous problems with substance abuse, has been in a drug rehabilitation center for the last two weeks, the National League team said today. Perez entered the center in Florida after meeting in his native Dominican Republic with David Dombrowski, the Expos’ vice president of player personnel.
The club said Perez had failed to comply with a strict after-care program prescribed by doctors because of previous drug-abuse problems. Perez, a right-hander, had a 12-8 won-lost record, with a 2.44 earned-run average in 188 innings pitched last season.
