NBA Roundup : Cavaliers Win Third From Pistons, 115-99

Larry Nance and Ron Harper each scored 14 points in the second half to help the Cleveland Cavaliers defeat the Detroit Pistons, 115-99, Tuesday night at Richfield, Ohio.

The emergence of the Pistons last season and the Cavaliers this season has made this one of the most hotly contested rivalries in the National Basketball Assn. They have the NBA’s best records this season.

Cleveland is 3-0 against Detroit this season. They meet again Friday night at Auburn Hills, Mich., where the Pistons’ Bill Laimbeer and Cleveland’s Brad Daugherty were ejected and suspended for one game for fighting on Jan. 27.

Harper finished with 26 points, Brad Daugherty 20 and Nance 18. Isiah Thomas and Mark Aguirre had 28 each for Detroit.

Detroit was without forward John Salley, who was placed on the injured list Tuesday with a broken bone in his left ankle. Salley missed his third straight game and will be out three weeks.

Chicago 121, San Antonio 102--Michael Jordan scored 24 points, and the Bulls handed the Spurs their 12th consecutive loss in this game at Chicago.

The Spurs were 1-12 in February, the worst month in their 16-year history. They are 13-42, assuring them of their fourth consecutive losing season.

Willie Anderson led the Spurs with 22 points.

Indiana 108, Seattle 106--Detlef Schrempf scored with four seconds remaining and the Pacers beat the SuperSonics at Seattle.

Chuck Person scored 45 points as Indiana won for the second time in 28 road games.

With the score tied, 106-106, after Xavier McDaniel sank a 15-foot jumper with nine seconds left, Schrempf dribbled into the lane and made an off-balance one-hander.

Dale Ellis, who had 30 points, missed a three-point shot that bounced off the rim with two seconds left.

Boston 112, Charlotte 87--Reggie Lewis scored 28 points and Kevin McHale added 21 as the Celtics defeated the Hornets at Charlotte, N.C.

Parish hit seven of his nine shots for 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Celtics.

Dallas 111, Miami 110--Rolando Blackman made a jump shot and added a free throw with three seconds left in overtime as the Mavericks beat the Heat at Miami.

The Heat led, 109-102, with 1:33 left in the extra period, but Dallas scored six straight points, the last four by Blackman, to make it 109-108 with 24 seconds to go.

After the Heat’s Sylvester Gray made one of two free throws, Blackman sank a lean-in 15-foot jumper, was fouled by Kevin Edwards, and made the free throw.

Edwards was short with a 20-foot jumper at the buzzer.

Blackman, who led the Mavericks with 27 points, also scored Dallas’ final six points in regulation time.

Blackman and teammate Derek Harper, who scored 23 points, missed shots in the final seconds of regulation.

Portland 139, Phoenix 134--Terry Porter scored a season-high 34 points and Jerome Kersey added 31 as the Trail Blazers defeated the Suns at Portland.

Tom Chambers had a season-high 42 for the Suns. Kevin Johnson had 32 points and 13 assists.
