Local News in Brief : Bernardi Opponent Yanez Quits Race
One of seven opponents to Los Angeles City Councilman Ernani Bernardi dropped out of the northeast San Fernando Valley’s 7th District race Tuesday and threw his support behind the leading challenger, Lyle Hall.
Richard Yanez’s withdrawal leaves Bernardi with six opponents in the April 11 election.
“It has become apparent that I will not be able to attract the resources necessary to unseat an incumbent,” Yanez said at a news conference.
Hall, a former president of the United Firefighters of Los Angeles City who is on leave from his job as a firefighter to campaign full time, said the support of Yanez, a Latino, is helpful in the district, which is mostly Latino.
The 7th District includes Sylmar, Pacoima, Arleta and sections of Mission Hills, Lake View Terrace, Sepulveda, Panorama City, Van Nuys, Sun Valley and North Hollywood.
