Southland : Businessman Killed in Brea Ambush

A wealthy businessman with interests in horses was slain ambush-style today in a fusillade of gunfire at his chauffeur-driven limousine at the gates of his Brea estate in the posh Carbon Canyon area.
The victim was Horace Joseph McKenna, 46, a former member of the California Highway Patrol who trained his Arabian horses on the estate and owned bars in Los Angeles. The motive for the 12:39 a.m. killing was not known.
McKenna was being driven home by chauffeur Robert Berg, 42, of Van Nuys, who was not injured.
