Local News in Brief : La Habra : Man Held on Suspicion of Attempted Murder
A Pomona man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder Tuesday after an apparent shoot-out on a La Habra street, police said.
Police responding to reports of gunshots at 8:30 p.m. Monday in the 400 block of West Las Lomas Drive found bloodstains inside a car and on the sidewalk, La Habra Police Lt. John Buchholz said.
Based on a preliminary investigation, police began searching for Raymond M. Velasquez, 26, of Anaheim, who apparently had been driving the car. He was arrested 7 hours later at a relative’s house in San Juan Capistrano.
Velasquez, who had superficial gunshot wounds to the face and arms, was treated at La Habra Community Hospital and released into police custody, Buchholz said.
Late Tuesday morning, police arrested Jesse Engle, 26, of Pomona. He was being held at the La Habra police station Tuesday night.
Velasquez, who is a state parolee, was also being held at the station while police tried to unravel what happened Monday night, Buchholz said. Two handguns were recovered near the scene.
