Simi Valley 10, Bishop Amat 6--Jesse Anguiano hit a three-run home run in the sixth and teammate Greg Santos hit a two-run homer in the first as Simi Valley (6-1) dominated Bishop Amat in a nonleague game at Simi Valley. Terry Hill and Jeff Sommer added solo home runs in the fifth.
Agoura 11, St. Genevieve 10--Chris Pittenger slammed a leadoff home run to left field off senior right-hander Roland De La Maza to give the Chargers (2-2) a nonleague win at Agoura.
Joe Cascione was four for four, including a double, home run and four RBIs for St. Genevieve (2-2).
Montclair Prep 4, Chaminade 1--Keyaan Cook pounded a three-run home run in the third inning to lead the Mounties (4-2) in a nonleague game at Montclair Prep. Lelean Sparks was two for three for Montclair Prep. Chaminade dropped to 0-6.
Saugus 2, Santa Clara 0--Senior right-hander Roger Salkeld needed only 80 pitches to post a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts in a nonleague game at Santa Clara.
Salkeld (2-0), who walked none, has 43 strikeouts and has not allowed an earned run in 23 innings. Santa Clara managed only two infield singles.
Saugus (3-2-1) scored twice in the sixth. With the bases loaded, J. B. Johnson scored when Glenn Terry reached base on a fielder’s choice. Darrell Davis later drew a bases-loaded walk to score George Lopata.
Glendale 7, Muir 4--Brent Overfelt and Robert DeTolve both went three for four as the Dynamiters opened a 5-0 lead and cruised in their Pacific League opener at Muir.
Danny Gray (2-0) scattered seven hits and struck out six. No Muir player had more than one hit. Glendale improved to 3-1, 1-0 in league play).
CITY SECTION
Monroe 4, Birmingham 2--The defending City Section 4-A Division champion Vikings committed five errors but survived to win their Mid-Valley League opener at home.
Monroe (1-0) scored twice in the sixth to break a scoreless tie. Henry Valdez, who was two for three, singled to score Tony Rolando with the winning run.
Chatsworth 7, Canoga Park 0--Rich Aude was four for four, including two home runs, to lead the host Chancellors (4-2, 1-0) in the West Valley League opener. Senior right-hander Derek Wallace (3-0) hurled a three-hitter to notch his second complete game. Wallace struck out seven and walked one.
Taft 11, El Camino Real 7--Glenn Nahmias hit a two-run triple in the fifth to lead the host Toreadors (4-2, 1-0) in a West Valley League opener.
Senior Jason Shapiro maintained a six-game hitting streak by delivering a two--run single in the fifth.
El Camino Real junior Bobby Kim tied the score, 6-6, with a two-run home run in the top of the fifth.
Van Nuys 8, Reseda 7--Keith Quigley’s seventh-inning double scored Melvin Batrez and Mike Engler to give the Wolves the Mid-Valley League opener at Van Nuys. John House (1-0) pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief.
Poly 2, Sylmar 1--Shortstop Gabe Chavez hit an RBI single in the sixth to lift the Parrots in the East Valley League game at Sylmar. Shad Martinez was three for four.
Grant 16, North Hollywood 2--Sean Goldman, Steve Pelote and Manny Toledo combined for seven hits and 11 RBIs as Grant routed the Huskies in an East Valley League opener at North Hollywood.
Cleveland 11, Granada Hills 3--Tony Holiday pitched a five-hitter with three strikeouts for Cleveland in a rout at Granada Hills. Holiday also went two for three with two RBIs, and teammate Tony Rangel hit a two-run homer. Herman Rodriguez and Jim Molinelli each added three hits.
