Sockers Sign Argentine; Veee’s Number to Be Retired
The Sockers have filled their roster to the 18-player limit with the signing of Jose Luis Rebay, a midfielder/forward from Argentina, Socker Coach Ron Newman announced Tuesday.
Rebay, 23, was a member of Argentina’s under-19 national team and played club soccer in Bolivia last year. Newman said it will likely be awhile before Rebay contributes.
“I doubt whether he’ll even see much playing time this year,” Newman said. “He’s never played on (artificial turf). He’s never played the indoor game.”
The Sockers also announced that they will retire Juli Veee’s number at halftime of the April 2 game with the Los Angeles Lazers. Veee retired as the team’s all-time leading scorer after the 1987-88 season.
