Despite sitting out much of the game in foul trouble, Morningside center Lisa Leslie had 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Lady Monarchs over Point Loma, 45-44, and to their second consecutive Southern California Division I regional basketball title.

Cal State Dominguez Hills pitcher Rick Davis boasts a 5-1 record and 1.72 ERA for the 8-9-1 Toros. The senior right-hander, nicknamed “Tricky Ricky,” has struck out 84 batters in 62 2/3 innings and has held the opposition to a .093 batting average.

North Torrance’s baseball team opened the season with a disappointing 0-4-1 showing in the El Segundo Tournament. The Saxons, rated No. 1 in the South Bay by The Times in a preseason poll, lost in the 13th-place consolation final to Palos Verdes, 11-4.

Torrance was the only team that fared worse than North in the El Segundo Tournament, finishing last among 32 schools with an 0-5 mark. The Tartars fell to Arroyo, 6-5, in the 15th-place consolation final.

Loyola Marymount’s baseball team lost two of three games in a weekend series against UC Santa Barbara despite outscoring the Gauchos, 39-28. The Lions, who are batting .314 but have a 5.18 ERA, suffered losses of 14-8 and 12-11. They beat UCSB, 20-2.
