Sergei Priakin, a four-year veteran of the Soviet National team, signed with the Calgary Flames for a reported $125,000 per season, becoming the first player to be allowed by the Soviet hockey federation to play in the National Hockey League.
Priakin, a 25-year-old right wing, has played seven seasons with the Soviet Wings of the Soviet Elite League.
