Robert Elfant has been appointed vice president of manufacturing for specialized computer chips at Irvine-based Western Digital Corp. Elfant’s responsibilities will include managing Western Digital’s new semiconductor assembly facility in Malaysia and its advanced semiconductor wafer manufacturing facility under construction in Irvine. Elfant joined Western Digital from Intel Corp., where he was general manager of some computer chip operations. Prior to that, he was vice president and general manager for Burroughs Corp.’s Micro Components Division and systems vice president for OMEX, an electronic document management system. In addition, he held numerous management positions with IBM Corp.
