High School Softball : Weil Throws 2-Hitter to Beat Canyon
Kym Weil pitched a two-hitter and struck out 13 as Hart High defeated Canyon, 5-1, in a nonleague softball game Thursday at Canyon.
Although Canyon scored an unearned run in the fourth inning to spoil Weil’s shutout, the junior extended her unearned-run streak to 65 innings.
Weil (9-1) has not allowed an earned run this season and has struck out 117 of the 222 batters she has faced. During the streak, she has walked only four.
Hart (10-1) scored the only runs Weil needed in the second inning.
With two out, Nikki Fox reached first on a fielder’s choice and went to second on a passed ball. Fox scored when Stephanie Keeler struck out but advanced to second when the catcher dropped the third strike and overthrew the first baseman. Danielle Wood followed with a single to drive in Keeler.
Village Christian 6, Sacred Heart 4--Penny Bailey hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to erase a one-run deficit and lift host Village Christian (5-1) in a nonleague game.
El Camino Real 3, San Fernando 0--El Camino Real’s Chrissy Peck had 10 strikeouts in a one-hit shutout in the Northwest Valley League game.
Peck and El Camino Real are both 11-1. Lisa Huffaker had the only extra-base hit--a leadoff triple in the fourth.
Simi Valley 2, Newbury Park 1--Freshman Taina Tande singled in the winning run in the sixth inning at Simi Valley.
Sophomore Heather Santiago (7-0) pitched a four-hitter for Simi Valley (12-3, 2-1).
L.A. Lutheran 7, Simi Lutheran 5--Raynee Schaumann was two for three with two RBIs and scored two runs for host L. A. Lutheran in the Heritage League game.
Oak Hill 23, Einstein 10--Janine Davis had three strikeouts for Oak Hill (3-0) in the Westside League game.
